Abstract:
Objective To explore the cognition on food safety of catering facilities among urban office workers in Chongqing city and to provide reference for food safety education in the workers.
Methods Street interview was conducted among 2 400 office workers in eight commercial centers of Chongqing main urban districts,with a self-designed questionnaire about cognition on food safety when dining out.
Results Among the office workers,64.41% reported paying attention to food safety,14.73% were aware of food safety grade rating,with a higher awareness rates in males(17.63%)than in the females(11.65%)(

P<0.05).When meeting with food safety problems,80.87% of the workers would choose to exchange the dishes,30.95% would remind friends not to have food in the facility,and only 9.36% would report the problem to the department concerned.The main sources of food safety information were television(TV),newspapers,network,and magazines,with the proportions of 85.54%,68.60%,55.89%,and 24.70%,respectively.
Conclusion The awareness of food safety and the relevant laws,regulations and measures is not good enough among urban office workers,especially for the awareness of right protection.In addition to TV and newspapers,network has become the main source of information on food safety among office workers in Chongqing city.
