Abstract:
Objective To determine the incidences of human immunodeficiency virus(HIV),syphilis and herpes simplex virus type 2(HSV-2) among men who have sex with men(MSM) with a follow-up study,and to provide evidence for developing AIDS intervention and prevention strategies among MSM.
Methods The MSM were recruited with snowball method.The subjects were followed-up and surveyed at 6th and 12th month with the questionnaires and HIV,syphilis,and HSV-2 tests.
Results The incidence rate was 1.1/100 person-years(95% confidence interval95%
CI:0-3.3) for HIV,6.8/100 person-years(95%
CI:2.1-11.5) for syphilis,and 5.2/100 person-years(95%
CI:1.0-9.3) for HSV-2 during the 12-month follow-up.The main reasons for the withdrawal of the follow-up was the change of phone number of the MSM.The results of multiple regression analysis showed follow-up in 6 month(
P=0.000,odds ratio
OR=12.597),living in Nanning city for one year or more(
P=0.044,
OR=2.831), and having sex with female in the previous 6 month(
P=0.036,
OR=5.359) were significantly associated with the completion of 12 month follow-up.
Conclusion Compared with other cities in China,the incidence rate of HIV among MSM was low.Being followed-up in 6 month,long living time in Nanning city and having sex with female in previous 6 month are significantly associated with the completion of 12 month follow-up in the study.
